There’s no place like home. . .

Tonight Manny asks me as we are putting him to bed “How did you get used to living in such a small space when you were used to such a big house?” This is a very common question, and he is also adjusting.   My answer is often the same, depending on my mood.

The first night in our little trailer we were still sleeping on an air mattress because we had to sell our king size bed that didn’t fit, and hadn’t replaced it yet. Many things weren’t done, but I remember waking up the first morning and thinking “we finally did it”. This is home. This is the home that we designed and built ourselves. Best part of all- no payments, we own it outright. I hadn’t felt so “at home” in a long time.

I tell him “It’s not always easy. There are days when I hate it. There are days when I trip over something and curse this tiny space. There are days when everything is in my way. But every morning that I wake up I know that I own the roof that is over my head, I built it. If I hate where it sits, I can move it.” He chuckles and shuffles off to bed and I go home to mine.

About trailerchic

Somehow I ended up in a single-wide trailer, in Reno, Nevada. And somehow I love it. Here is where I tell my story about my trailer, and my passion for small space living, photography, travelling, and running.
